Ever noticed how easy it is for negative thoughts to take root, while the positive ones seem to vanish unless you actively nurture them? I’ve been there. We all have. It’s that familiar cycle where you replay a conversation from earlier in the day—focusing on the “what ifs,” “I should’ve said this differently,” or falling into self-doubt. Instead of holding on to the moments of encouragement, I found myself spiraling in thoughts that left me feeling drained and uncertain.

But in that moment, something powerful hit me:

🌱 Negative thoughts don’t just leave on their own.
🌱 Positive thoughts don’t just stick unless you actively feed them.

It’s like a garden. The weeds—those negative thoughts—will grow, spread, and take over without any effort from you. They don’t ask for permission. They just appear. But the good stuff—the thoughts that nourish your spirit and help you grow—those require intentional care. They need attention. They need you to tend to them.

Nurturing Your Mind: The Power of Intentional Practices

For me, shifting my thoughts starts with intentionally slowing my mind and practicing a few key techniques. These practices aren’t quick fixes, but they have a compounding effect over time. The more consistent I am, the more I begin to notice my thoughts before they run away with me.

Here’s how I’ve learned to nurture my mind:

  1. Reflect on what’s truly important – When my mind begins to spiral, I pause and remember what matters most. Not the fleeting worries, not the things I can’t control, but the deeper truths—what I value, what brings me peace, and what makes me feel grounded.

  2. Pray and center myself – In those moments of uncertainty, I turn to prayer. I invite stillness into my heart and mind. I ask for clarity, strength, and guidance. I let go of the noise and lean into a quiet space where I can hear what I truly need to hear.

  3. Speak truth aloud – Sometimes, my mind starts to race with doubts or worries. When that happens, I speak truth aloud. I remind myself who I am, what I’ve accomplished, and what I stand for. Saying those words out loud helps solidify them in my heart, and quiets the chaos inside.

But what works for me might look different for you. Maybe journaling helps you untangle your thoughts. Or perhaps gratitude practices ground you in the present moment. Or maybe it’s as simple as taking a deep breath and pausing long enough to notice where your thoughts are going.

Consistency is Key: Small Shifts Add Up

The truth is, it’s the small, consistent practices that really make the difference. It’s not about making big, sweeping changes overnight. It’s the daily commitment to shift the soil of your mind, to remove the weeds, and to nurture the flowers of positive thoughts, even when you’re tired or frustrated.

I’ve seen the power of this firsthand. The more I commit to these practices, the quicker I can spot when my mind starts veering off course. I’ve developed the ability to catch those negative thoughts before they grow too strong, to redirect them with kindness and truth. But let’s be real—this is still a practice. I’m human, too. I slip up, I get overwhelmed, and sometimes, those weeds start to creep in. The difference now is that I’m better at recognizing them and making the conscious decision to choose differently.

The Power of These Shifts: It’s a Journey, Not Perfection

I’m not sharing this with you because I’ve perfected it. I’m still in the middle of my journey, and there’s still work to be done. But I do believe in the power of these shifts. The small, daily shifts that—over time—make a massive difference in the way we see ourselves and the world around us.

I’ve seen these practices bring peace, clarity, and grounding into my life, and I believe they can do the same for you. It’s not about achieving perfection—it’s about progress. Every small step you take, every time you pause to notice your thoughts and choose to nourish the good ones, you’re shifting your life in a positive direction.

Let’s Do This Together: Your Opportunity for Growth

So, what thought has been trying to take root in your mind this week? Have you noticed it? Is it a thought that makes you feel small or doubtful? Or is it something that reminds you of who you truly are? How are you intentionally choosing to nurture the good thoughts instead?

I invite you to take a moment today—right now, even—to notice what’s growing in your mind. Take a deep breath and check in with yourself. What are you feeding your thoughts? What are you choosing to nourish today?

If you’re ready to dig deeper into this work, I’m excited to announce that I’ll soon be opening up spots for my NeuroChangeSolutions program. This is a space where we’ll do this kind of work together—where I’ll guide you through intentional practices and offer you the support and structure you need to make lasting change.

Are you ready to take the next step?

In the meantime, I challenge you to take a moment each day to notice your thoughts. Take a deep breath, and remember—what you choose to feed, grows. 🌱💛
